Thursday Thirteen #10 -- Sightseeing Around Riverview, USA

Thirteen Things about The City of Riverview, USA

A lot of you are new to me and my fiction project, so it seems that to make you feel more at home, I ought to take a step back and show you around. This week, let's sightsee around the fictional city of Riverview, USA.

1. Lyrical Pleasures, Lyric's shop

2. Roach's Diner

3. Victory's, the sports bar where Mitchell and Kerri have their first "date," the spontaneous one.

4. The Washburn Theater, one of the ritzy theaters in town, usually used for plays, musicals and the symphony but also the scene of the Regional Music Awards show that Mitchell takes Kerri to on their official first date.

5. Pigeon Square, a hip yuppie area of old brownstone walk-ups and small yards, set around a small park. A police station backs up against this park. Needless to say, parents love it and junkies hate it.

6. Decade, one of the smaller clubs in the city

7. All Access, the rockin' joint in Riverview. If the cops aren't called, it's not a good night.

8. KRVR, the local, independently-owned rock radio station where Boomer works.

9. Big Buck's Best Barbecue, featuring Bodacious Sauce. For a city known for its diversity, this is some good barbecue. Here's an earlier mention of Big Buck's, and here is something I've since found: actual Bodacious Sauce. Tell them I sent you if you order any.

10. Moon Shadows, Trevor's favorite strip club. Catering to the upscale market, they have the best girls in town.

11. Centrino's, a boutique clothing store that carries designer clothes in limited quantities so you don't have to worry about looking like everyone else.

12. Harry's Hoagies, the people who make Trevor's favorite meatball sub.

13. The Strand Hotel, a cheap, by-the-hour motel. Here's an outtake about it.

Love the listand I'll keep that in mind thanks. and If I ever do need some think to read I'll let you know thanks and happy tt.
It sounds like a wonderful town!
Good list!
Mine is up too
Happy Thursday!
Sounds fantastic!!! Oh.. and by the way...thanks for the help with blogger. I am going to work on the code this weekend. Maybe soon I will be a blogger too!!!
Happy TT!
Sounds quaint to me! Loving it!

I'm up as well! Do drop by.
Great list! I love the names you've got. You certainly paint a great picture for people to become more familiar. Decade is a great name... Hehehe
I actually stole the Decade name from an old club that used to be here in town. Springsteen would hang out there. Jon Bon Jovi, too.

We went there for dinner on my 21st birthday, half my fiction class and me. We walked into class a half hour late; the prof was freaked. He thought we were boycotting!

So... HAD to use the Decade name.
Roach's Diner, ROFLMAO!
I was waiting for someone to comment on that... It's a take-off on a diner here in town that we call Critter's (adding the C to the name, you see).
That sounds like a cool town! :)
That sounds great! I liked reading about your town. Thanks for coming by my place :)
Oooo, this is nice and helpful too, thanks!!
Wow, I love the place already. Is the book written already?
All the names are well thought out. Pigeon Square? lol
The Strand? Is that because you could become stranded there.
Is The Strand near Roach's Diner? lol
I have to laugh at Roach's Diner. I had a friend in high school whose last name was "Roach" and he always said he was going to open a restaurant named "Roach's".

Happy TT and I'm up!
Thanks for posting this-- I've been lurking on some of your outtakes posts and enjoying them. I like writing with realistic dialogue, and I love it that your characters' band has a discography! That's the kind of extra touch that says you really know your characters and their world.

I've been exploring all the different ways I can use blogging in my own fiction. I have a fictional blog, which works like a ninteenth-century serial novel with daily "diary" entries and pictures. I've got an open blog for first chapters, and a locked one (access by permission only) for whole works that I want to remain publishable.

I've noticed more and more writers using blogs, either to discuss their work, or as a supplement to a novel. This is still a relatively new medium, and there's a lot of potential for creativity.

Good luck with your project!
I MUST add Riverview to my travel agenda! Sounds like a fascinating town. My TT is also posted.
Roach's Diner sounds interesting. I can't wait to hear more.
Great town!!
I should post 13 things about Lodi! Hehehehehehehe . . .
All Access sounds like a place I might have hung out in my wild youth...
What a great idea for a TT!
Such a wonderful town - thanks so much for introducing to us =)

Happy New Year from Germany,

P.S.: Please visit my TT - Thanks a lot =)
I'm definitely going to have to visit more to keep up with this all! happy TT!
Can I live there? It sounds enchanting!

Happy TT! Thanks for stopping by.
What's the closest major airport? I'm ready to book my trip... but I think I'll pass on staying at the Strand.
I hear there's a classier place in town with rooms for $0.75.
Great list! Roach's Diner doesn't sound too appetizing, but Big Bucks Best BBQ sounds like a place I'd frequent. Thanks for visiting and happy TT!
Roach's diner. That sounds...appetizing!
Sounds like a great town, Susan. How are you in 2007 so far? :)
What a great idea! Riverview sounds wonderful. Happy TT!
Happy Thursday!
Wow..sounds like an interesting place to visit..I'll have to read the book! Great TT, I'm up too.
Great town.. wish it were real! Thanks for dropping by.
Sounds like a great place! Thanks for dropping by.
Wow, you really know how to world-build. That is awesome.
Sound like a good place for us to retire. One day! I keep telling hubby I want a place with a nice sounding name!

thanks for visiting my Tt. Glad you like the person I am!
Sounds like a great town and I can't wait to get my hands on a nice printed paper copy when the day finally arrives. See, nothing but positive thoughts flowing your way ;)

As for garbage goals - they're the only way the Oil made it to the show last year. Too bad they couldn't have gotten a few in Game 7. So close... so very, very far away...
Positive thoughts in my direction are NEEDED. Thanks! (although getting off my duff and sending out those next two queries would help, too. I'm really just following the advice on Dystel & Goderich's site. Yep. That's it.)

I'm glad everyone's digging the tour of Riverview. Hope more of you guys will hang out more and become groupies.
this was a super fun tt topic- great site- i'm sure your scrapbooks are very creative after seeing this site...
I'm glad you are giving us the "up to speed" list on things. Elsewise, I'd be lost!

Thanks for visiting Snarkypants!
That's a cool concept. Thanks for visiting my TT!
Wow! You've really thought this all out carefully. Very cool.

Thanks for stopping by my T-13!
Is this a small town? Do all towns have strip clubs? I wouldn't know where to find one in my town...

I think I'd like Pigeon Square.
The names are really great. Sounds like an interesting place!
Sounds like a town I'd like to visit! :-)
Thanks for visiting my TT.
I think I'm getting the hang of this project of yours. It took me a few weeks to figure out what was going on, but this is a neat idea.
Great concept for TT. Love it..though I'd have to find somewhere else to eat since I do believe I'm the lone southerner who doesn't eat barbeque..and umm Roach's diner..umm..'nuff said. LOL

is the strip club and the hotel and lyric's shop all located in the same area? it could be a theme "neighborhood." ;)

great list!
Now we want a map, Susan. :p
I enjoyed this one! It really gives you a sense that this place exists out there... somewhere (over the rainbow!)
Thanks, babe. I'm trying! (and maybe succeeding, given the number of people who forgot -- or ignored -- the fact that Riverview's fictional.)
