Sad end of an era
I heard today that Sunday the fifteeenth will end the 33-year-run of the legendary bar known as CBGB. Having been inside, myself, I join thousands upon thousands who mourn the loss of this iconic, narrow, skanky joint.
The owner says he'll reopen in Vegas with as much of the original stuff as possible but sorry. It can't be the same.

Man, I thought they were history already. (Sheesh -- live less than an hour from NYC and you might as well be in Siberia for all the news that gets to you!)
Been there, done that too. It's a shame - a dump, but a landmark dump nonetheless. Won't be the same in Vegas.

that's been coming a while now. I live in bfe and even I heard about people trying to save it. Believe it or not I like the punk scene lots and am envious that you got to go to that. Umm..how can it be the same in Vegas? Somehow even lil o me understands it won't be the same, and it is sad that something legandary is coming to an end.
I don't know how you can move something and expect it to be the same -- or better. It just can't be, simply because what made the original was the history behind it. The fact that it just HAPPENED. You can't move that, and I don't think this sort of history holds any sort of attraction in someplace as vapid as Vegas.
Hell, if it can happen anywhere, I suppose LV, with all it's Hotels full of copies of everything from around the world might be the place it could happen...but do you have the PEOPLE to come?
Good point about the people. I know I sure wouldn't jump on an airplane to see a band play there. The historical Fillmore West in San Fran was one thing. This ... reproduction is another.
