Speaking of CBGBs...

Check out this book! It was just published on the first of October; how's this for timely?

The Heebie-Jeebies at CBGBs: A Secret History of Jewish Punk, by Steven Lee Beeber.

I've got to get my hands on this puppy!

(added note: apologies to Steven, whose name was apparently misspelled in the source I'd found it in.)

Labels: , ,

Comments:
I'm sure it was timed on purpose but maybe it's a cool coincidence.

Yeah, you're probably right. I keep forgetting that the closing had been imminent for awhile.

Anyway, you KNOW this puppy's gonna wind up in my PC!

Steven Lee Beeber is a friend of mine, and I went to his reading at CBs Gallery last Friday. I remember him struggling to finish it, and it's great to see the book now getting recognition.

Well, I'm glad to be giving him some recognition, salomedesade. I have a few friends who do book reviews; one runs an entire site devote to it, so please tell Steven to feel free to drop him an e-mail and I'd be glad to see if we can get him even more attention.

Thanks for stopping by! I hope you'll come back more often!

Hi WoM! Just stopping in to read through and let you know I've suscribed to your RSS feed (through bloglines)! I love this book. I think it will be on my short list for Hannukah gift giving. Check back with you soon.

Aww, Mellon, glad to see you -- and hear you've subscribed.

Does this mean you've READ the book already??? Do tell if you have!

Btw, have you read Stars of David, by Scott R. Bernarde? It was published a few years back and has been sitting (where else) on Mt. TBR for awhile now. Barely mentions Draiman... *shakes head at the horror*

Ha! I'm laughing that you thought I had read one of these books. YOU are introducing me to all of this. I'm the daughter of two Jewish immigrant doctors, raised with nothing but classical music in the house. I'm not a big fan of heavy metal, more a classic rock, funk and blues kinda gal (with a not-so-secret love of all things opera). I love that it's out there and I can get it for my cousins, my neices and nephews(I'm so old!) and my friends. I may even give some of these as Bar/t Mitzvah presents, to educate the young. I look forward to reading more. Brava!

Okay, we CLEARLY need to spend more time yakking; I'm intrigued by your past!

And have no fear. I'll have you head banging before long. *grin*
