Susan's Book Talk: Spring Reading Thing Final Tally

Since today is the first day of summer (I hope you've visited some of the great Thursday Thirteen posts about the solstice), it's time to recap how I did in the Spring Reading Thing.

I'd have to say that overall, I did better than expected, in terms of sheer numbers.

While I didn't get through my initial list of twenty-nine books, I did read twenty nine -- seven titles were different from the list. I had to read a few to give to friends as prizes over at BookObsessed.com, a place I don't spend nearly enough time anymore. Also, I forgot to factor in my book club books, of which there were two. And I had the pleasure of not one but two graphic novels by the wonderful Joann Sfar.

Overall, the standout was, of course, Karma Girl, which I've been raving about pretty non-stop for the past few weeks. I finished You Gotta Have Balls last night and while the first half was rough and I wished I could give up, I'm glad I didn't. I'll rave more about this later; it'll be a great Hidden Treasure book.

Overall, I think I'm disappointed that I gave up on as many as I did (seven). I'd like to think my taste in picking what to read is improving, but I guess not...

It was a fun challenge. I hope to do more, even if my reading has fallen off lately. Too much to write, too many blogs to surf... You guys know how it is.

I rarely give up on books. They would have to be REALLY bad for me to.

They were, Jean-Luc. At least, *I* thought they were, compared to some of the other great stuff I read more regularly.

It's good to 'hear' you again. I'm glad you stopped by.

Twenty-nine books is really great! And really, life is too short to stick with books that aren't all that great -- there's so much more out there. Thanks for being part of the Spring Reading Thing!

It's always fun to come to your blog. I still have questions about POD. Been busy and not feeling good lately.

Here from Michele's.

In my youth (yesterday) I NEVER gave up a book before the end. Now-a-days, my time is too precious to waste hours on something that is crap. If they don't have me by page 50, too bad.

Thanks for the hilarious comment over at my place re gym. You had me spewing tea!

Just added Karma Girl to my wishlist. You know, I just completely forgot about TT this week! Everything Wylie said about giving up on books is me, right down to the 50 page rule.

You're doing a great job, Susan, and a lot of work. Keep on sloggin'.

I don't read nearly enough as I should. I'm reading the current Dresden Files book at the moment and it's taking me ages, mainly because I read at night before going to sleep, so I'm usually tired. I should get out of that habit!

Enjoy your reading :)

Michele sent me to say hi, Susan and to see how your challenge went....

Well done! 29 books is magnificent. And I also give up on books if they're awful....

I've missed you over at BookObessed. I don't get to talk to you as much anymore. Life has been very busy for both of us. At least, I think both my boys aren't sick anymore. (knock on wood)

Do I ever! My reading has totally dropped off to nothing.

29 books is quite an achievement! Sometimes I'll pick up a book on the weekend, start reading then wonder why I'm all stiff, sore and HUNGRY! :) It's because hours have gone by and I haven't noticed.

Here via Michele today.

Mmm, I wish I had that sort of time to spend reading anymore!
