Booking Through Thursday: Typos

This week's Booking Through Thursday question made me smile.

What’s the worst typographical error you’ve ever found in (or on) a book?

I was reading an ARC of Jennifer Estep's upcoming release, Hot Mama, and found conscious used instead of conscience. I figured she'd turned in the edits, but e-mailed her to ask if she'd caught it, anyway. Just to be safe. I don't want Jennifer to look bad; her books are terrific. Go read them if you haven't.

For more on Typos, I send you to my good friend, (fictional) music reporter Chelle LaFleur.

Here is her first editorial on the subject.

This is her second editorial about typos.

I felt bad about posting two Chelle rants so close together, so I offered up this explanation of why.

And there you go. All about typos.

Hi Susan, nice to meet you. I mean, nice to meet your blog. Michele sent me over.

Hello Susan!

I love your T13! Actually, I love anything and everything you write.
Enjoy your weekend, where ever you are:)

just wanted to say hello!!! :)

Hey, Susan!

Do you think writers were able to concentrate better when there was no internet? Or do you think they just read and watched TV and called their friends on the phone and drank heavily instead?

I did none of the above. I played bad computer games!

The best typo I've ever seen was in a magazine - the word ``blame'' was spelled ``blaim'' - in a headline!

Susan,
I've caught that particular typo (conscious instead of conscience) more than once. One gets somewhat accustomed to typos when one reads ARCs often, but one which drove me to the point of fury was a (good) debut book by a (very nice) romance author published by a (fantastic) publisher by a (very popular, blogging, no longer in the industry) paranormal romance editor. In this book (which I hesitate to name), the word "then" was consistently used in place of the word "than." By the fifth or sixth occurrence, I was practically yelling at the pages.

Guess everyone makes mistakes, huh, Camille?
