Thursday Thirteen -- Susan's Scary Brain

Thirteen Things I Think

So most of you guys are familiar with the fiction I create here at this blog (as opposed to my other blog, Win a Book, which is mostly about contests to win books. For now.). What you don't get to see too terribly often is the warped way in which my mind works through things.

I thought I'd change that up for you today, knowing fully well that you very well may run screaming into the night, terrified of what really lurks here. At the very least, I expect many of you to beg for more fiction in the future.

1. I found this site, FakeBands.com.

2. I decided that I aspire to have my fake bands, ShapeShifter and Deadly Metal Hatchet (and all that will follow) listed there. ShapeShifter first, of course. They're better known. They're more musically talented.

3. One downside is that this site is pretty out of date; the last update was almost a year ago. And there aren't any bloggers represented. Of course, that could be because of the date of the last update. A year is a long time in the world of technology. Or it could be that I truly am this unique. Which means I deserve a spot of my own, here, there and everywhere.

4. Many of my friends pointed out that even though ShapeShifter exists only on a blog for now, there is a book waiting to be published. That means that I'm more than just a blogger.

5. More than one friend has commented that ShapeShifter seems more real than certain real bands. That's not just a compliment to me, but for this Fake Bands site, it's got to be a plus.

6. Looking at some of the other bands listed there, I wonder if The Barbarian Brothers or Stevie Faith or Jizm have fans who feel that way. (The Cheetah Girls might, but it's possible they're the only ones. Or are you going, "Who?")

7. Maybe I'd get too much notice for ShapeShifter if they are included. According to All Music Guide, there already are a few real bands named ShapeShifter. Some are even making music today.

8. I think that automatically means I can't be included on FakeBands. I'm not sure. I still think my band should be.

9. After all, part of me thinks that yeah, okay. Say another one of these Shape Shifter bands (or Shapeshifter, but still not spelled identically to my band) gets mad and sues me. Think of all that publicity I'd get for myself!

10. Lawsuits are hassles best avoided, but in this case, it could be fun. After all, my ShapeShifter doesn't make electronic and reggae and whatever else. They're a rock band. Maybe they have a blonde lead singer like Mitchell, but so does Motley Crue, Poison, and Warrant. None of whom are the least bit like ShapeShifter, who wore jeans and leather in the 80s, not spandex.

Nor are they like other four-member rock bands. Look at U2. Compare Trevor to Bono. Whoa. Hope that didn't blow your mind too thoroughly. Or is that a snicker I hear?

11. Part of me wonders if I'm too late in my ambition. The Fake Bands folk have already compiled all of this into a book. At best, I'd only make it into the second edition. Does Trevor Wolff do seconds? I suppose if she's pretty enough...

12. And really. If this were such a great thing to be part of, why did it take me over two years of blogging to discover it? Or am I having sour grapes? It's possible. The Net is huge. Which is, of course, part of the problem when it comes to making my fake band a household name.

13. I'm on the fence here. To be immortalized with Tijuana Tokyo, or not to be. That is the question. Opinions?

Can't believe I'm first. You are a fascinating, woman, even with the one year lapse in posts!

Well, Susie, I'm glad you're first.

And it's not me who's had the lapse in posts. It's that Fake Bands site.

hmmm... my initial thought was go for it, but after I look at it, like you said, over a year is a LONG time on the net to not be active, I think I'd forget it as not worth the time. look at what used copies are selling for on the amazon links... I think it's probably not a sought after item and therefore not something to waste your valuable self on. ;)

Hello... we're sort of neighbors this week in the T-13. Naming a band sounds like an interesting challenge. While I don't do that, I understand the challenge from naming my fantasy baseball teams -- the San Jose Hackers, for example.

Wow, that's something! I had no idea. Yes, I definitely think you deserve to be listed in the Fake Rockipedia.

And your last post didn't show up in my reader until now. That logo ROCKS!

(Er, you know, that pun was actually not at all intentional.)

When I read your title about "fake bands," I was thinking, the wrist bands everyone makes these days for their "causes." I really thought it was a website to create your own fake "band."

I am weird... First the giraffe... now, this! It's been a long day! LOL!

'Does Trevor Wolff do seconds? I suppose if she's pretty enough...'

LOL!! I think ShapeShifter deserves to be on that site. Why not?

I agree, loving that new logo! But who or what is Tijuana Tokyo???? I'm so going to Google it!

Happy TT Susan, and thanks as always for stopping by :)

Ok. I came up with flights from Tijuana to Tokyo or a restaurant. So I'm thinking the latter maybe ;)

Sue:

Tijuana Tokyo - From the TV series Eight is Enough (03/07/79). From "The Final Days" episode. After hearing the prom committee will pay the prom band big bucks, teen Tommy Bradford (Willie Aames) assembles this band. Apparently the band was played by Aames' real life band.

(I lifted this off the Fake Bands site; any copyright belongs to them.)

The answer is simple... forget Fake Bands since it's out of date and probably dead. Start your own blog dedicated to fake bands.

Hmm. You're making my brain churn, Sarah. In a good way.

Thanks for that explanation. I would have never guessed, although I do vaguely remember that episode..lol!

I love the logo. Your band is more real than most bands, perhaps because you invest so much thought into your work than some bands do.

I think you're analyzing it too much. Do what you want but sleep on it first. Dont over think it. Happy TT my friend. Thanks for stopping by:)

I agree with Sarah -- start your own. After one year, I think its fair game.

Thanks for letting me know about susiej.

Hmm. Fake Bands. I'll have to visit that site. Happy TT!

But of course your band can be included in the list of fake bands, because it's YOUR fake band, not another fake band.

Can I say that I didn't know that there were enough fake bands to have a website?

oooh i agree -- if that site's so out of date, i think you should branch out on your own!! this band deserves some notoriety here, it's more real than a real band!

So stinkin' funny!! I love the whole "Fake Bands" thing. Maybe you should contact to submit ShapeShifter and see if the site owner will revive his site with some updates!

also love ur logo ;) great list

Visit me in here

You are not JUST a blogger.

Do you want Shapeshifter to be on a website with a lapse in posts?

I vote no and agree with pussreboots: Start your own site.

Happy TT!

I think Shapeshifter deserves its spot, but I have to say a year is a long time for no activity.

Y'know, it feels kinda weird to contemplate ShapeShifter being listed on a site for "fake" bands. There's nothing "fake" about ShapeShifter. Or the guys who make it up. :)

But yes, I think it would be way cool for ShapeShifter to be listed on that site. :) It would really help spread the word about the guys!

The logo is awesome! I think your bands deserve to be recognized. You've put so much thought and so much of your heart into them.

Happy T13! This list is pretty cool. Hope to see you at my 7th edition about Charlaine Harris.

Not a bad idea. Fake bands from internet stuffs. I have some fake rock stars for that list, Carlisle Ross, Rune, Bram Steele, Dominic Solent, Kendall Reed, and ShinyBitch's Dark Disgrace.

I’ve just published mine and dropped by to add the link here, but I’ll be late for class if I stay to read … so I’ll return later this afternoon. Happy T-13ing ;--)
Hugs and blessings,

You are TOO funny! Cheetah Girls most definitely belong on the last, and I think ShapeShifter does, too.

Wow that is a lot to think over! I love the comment does Trevor do seconds...

I think Shape Shifter should be out there! They have worked hard (well okay they have played hard) and deserve it!

First, #11 was LOL funny :)
Second, Shapeshifter is too good for this fake-band website. IMO, I think that Trevor would be completely squicked to be on a list with Britney Britney (from Fairly Odd Parents) and The Cheetah Girls. Ew.
And Mitchell has far too much dignity for such nonsense
;)
I'm with Sarah... start your own!!

I snickered :P

Bet ya there are bands on that site that kick the Cheetah Girls in the kitty, if ya get my drift.

Love the ShapeShifter logo, chica! *wg*

I had so much fun reading that... I don't think you are crazy at all...

My list is up.

Um, that's not all that scary--it seems perfectly reasonable to me. Shapeshifter, and even DMH are definitely more real than a lot of the bands on that site, some of which were only mentioned on a TV show.

But I like Sarah's idea of making your own site... as long as it doesn't cut into your writing time. :)

I told you what I think.I think you should go for it!

Why not just call them? Their numbers on the site.

And, since I'm probably the only person you know who's involved in a trademark suit, I would not worry about being sued. It's an enormous pain in the rear end because (shocker) of the US trademark department. Otherwise, the lawyers just work it out.

Plus, you'd have to have a sizable income to actually be sued (we're being "negotiated with prior to suit".). When you have that income, you won't give a shit.

Move forward, Susan. Get going. Find your mentors and get moving.

Do it, do it! I mean, really, why not? But please, don't ever compare Bono with Trevor. I find it strangely disturbing.

They haven't updated for a whole year? Dang, I missed that part yesterday. In that case I don't think I'd bother unless they come up with some new buzz for this year.

Oh I totally agree w/ pusserboots

The Bono-Trevor thing was supposed to be vaguely disturbing. 'cause, you know, it is.

Happy T13! Glad I stopped by.

Well, at first I thought you should do it, but you're right, over a year is a long time for a site to not be active. I'm not sure It would be worth the time to pursue.

BTW: that new ShapeShifter logo is awesome!

I'm with Sarah on this. Start your own site...it could be like a Phoenix rising from the ashes. Or something.

This is making me want to do something with my idea for an all girl 80s cover band. :D

like i usually am, i'm of two minds. essentially like you. is a site lying fallow that long worth your time? on the other hand i does seem like something ShapeShifters ought to qualify for. maybe your time could be better spent creating a similar page. not necessarily another website to maintain but say a wikipedia page. no idea if that idea has anything going for it. i'm thinking off the cuff.

I'm in agreement with a lot of your other commenters...a year is a long time to be dormant online...

Well...I once had an idea for a band called "Rogue Lemon." I decided that it would have to be an all-girl 80s cover band. The only problem being that I...get stage fright, despite years and years of drama. Also, I sing and don't really play any other instruments. Well...except drums. But not even that since Jr. High.

Perhaps it will make it into a story some day. If you go to the bottom of my lists page on my personal blog (http://www.celticangel.org/index.php/lists/ ) you can see my list of band name ideas. It will slowly grow as I find my old notes.

And that's about it. I just thought that it would be cool to have a band like that covering all manner of songs.

I agree with what shaunesay said.. 1 year is a long time on the net to not be active. I enjoyed reading your post!

Very interesting idea. amd TT. I'd be leary about the one year lapse in updates. Don't know if it would be a waste of time or not. But hey... I hope it all goes well for ya. Have a great weekend.

Something tells me that if it's been a year it's probably not updated enough to make it worth your time... Like you said, a lot happens in a year!

Happy Friday!! :D

Wheee! My mind does that whole train of thought thing all the time. :)

Thanks for visiting my TT at Raven's Roads. :) I did another one at Raven's RV if you want to see 13 pictures of smoke covering the world. ;)
